The bonds are a safe investment at a nigner rum ui inniw tlmn niiv bank wilb pay and better socurity. " They are negotiable and recommended By leaaing dusiuoss men nf Medford as a eood investment. Tim draw interest at the rate of 6 per cent per annum, payable the first of Juno and tho first of December. They mature in five years. Each bond has coupons attached, on presentation of which upon the dates on which it ma tures, calls for the interest due, which will bo paid by the trustee, the Jack son County bank. Why the Bonds Are issuea. These gold bonds are issued to raise money to eiilmge and improve the print ing plant and to continue the publica ; in n hotter form of the Daily Tri bune and tlio Semi-Weekly Southern Oregonian. It ib desired to mane n still oetter. It is proving inadequate to handle the volume of business which the rapid growth of the city insures. It is desired to malte tne aauy cover all tho towns of tho Eoguo Biver val ley and make it in every way a news paper that the ontire valley will be proud of. All of the money secured by the sale of these bonds will be invest ed in the property, all of which will be subject to the mortgage given as security for the bonds. Medford i destined to be a large city, its daily a great newspaper worth many times the original investment. Medford Publishing Company. The Medford Publishing company is composed of reputable business men of Medford, who have backed their judg ment with their money. It is inenrpo- which only part has been subscnueu. The balance is treasury stock. Of the rated for $10,000 capital stock, of stock already issued, a majority is in the namo-of &'. Putnam, editor and man ager. There is no "water" in the stock, it all represents money actually paid in. ' The by-laws of the company provide that the editor and manager alone is responsible for the editorial and business policy of the paper. The directois of tho concern are the follow Mig well-known business men of Med lord: V. 1. Vnwter, F. Osenbrugge, J. P. Eeddy, II. C. Stoddard, C. R. Ray, Ci. Putnam, R. G. Smith and J. D. Ohvell. All of these gentlemen, with the exception of Putnam, took stocK merely from a public-spirited stand point, to secure for Medford a good daily newspaper. Mono of them exer cises nuy control over tho poliev of tne , pa per. Not a Speculation. If you are "looking for speculation, don't 'buy those gold bonds. They are not a speculation. They are an invest ment. These gold bonds will not make you rich, but they will give you a good re turn upon the money invested. You will not put in a dollar expecting to get out ,if.ll..r for von won't do it. But you can put in your dollar and be sure of getting it out again with good inter est also. Again, these gold bonds boat any siheme of liid;ng coin in tin boxes or stowing it away in safety deposits vaults. It keeps the money in circula tion and helps make times hotter, as well as encouraging " praiseworthy en terprise. It is to the investing, not the specu lating public that these bonds are of ferod. The best financiers in the city recommend (hem. Tho Paper's Future. A irreat future lies before this coun try, and before Ibis newspaper. The property is built upon business lines mid run upon business principles. Its police is progressive, forceful ttnd in dependent. Its manager has had many years' experience in practical newspa per work. The newspaper properties owned are bound to he great news papers, because they represent the whole people and standing for the peo ple, will bo supported by the people. The daily has grown wonderfully since the prient manager took charge. He found a bankrupt institution with noth l.ii t ileitis, ill-will and nrenaid circu lation. It was out of favor with the public and with the advertiser. Look at its columns today. Tt is in favor with both the public and the advertiser. The ehantre has been wrought with but little money, in a very short space of time. A still greater change will be wrought in the next row months. A lltirt to-K. trt Talk. "Kentrdir-tf Mi policy of The Tri bune and Southern Oneoninn: They will nly Ivc run as independent, po litically nM commercially. I have no ( pow.nal or corporate iito'rosts to pro " et-ei tine to serve, except the gen eral public. As long as I am connected with the papers, and I intend to be con tinuously, they will bo newspapers in the strictest sense of tho word, and not organs of any person, corporation or clique. "Because a person is a stockholder or bondholder in this concern does not entitle him to special favors when the interests of the public clash with Mb; or to immunity rrom criticism. "I desire to enlarge tho Bcope of the daily, to make it the newspaper of the valley, instead of one city in the val ley, ond to quadruplo its circulation nnri businoRS. To this end i ask vour co-operation, and in no way can you co-operate ueuer inuu uy uuying um securities. "G. PUTNAM, Editor and Manager." Are Oood Investment. Those mold hondft nsv hitrhor interest than banks, and are amply secured by mortgage, ruey aro on a growing property in a growing city. , They not legitimate investment, but aid mate rially in tho promotion of a praisewor thy enterprise that means more to tho eountrv than nnv other sinole enter prise in it, moro for its development ana progress.
